Exploring Relationships, Sex, Exploitation & The Power of Online Media

The Sex, Lies & Love Project empowers Children & Young People through creative and engaging workshops and RSE lessons, equipping children with the knowledge and confidence to lead safer and healthier lives. The project explores modern day influences impacting Children & Young People today, providing the tools to identify criminal and sexual exploitation, unhealthy relationships, violence, and abuse.

We work with children to provide them with an in-depth understanding of consent and the harmful effects of online material, including its influence on criminal & sexual violence, as well as body image, and mental health, by designing and delivering age-appropriate Relationship & Sex Education.

We develop our lessons and workshops within a framework of statutory guidance, keeping up to date with current terminology & law, monitoring trends in online and youth culture, all whilst maintaining accessibility for children and young people, delivering content relevant contextually to their lives.

The project was founded and is led by fully qualified Social Worker, Children and Families Safeguarding professional and exploitation worker, Libby Flenley.

Why is RSE so vital, today more than ever?

The session was great, it was pitched really well for the students. It wasn’t cringy at all, nor was it preachy or condescending. It felt open, honest and you could see how much the students were engaged.

Thank you so much for your training yesterday it was very interesting and I think we all feel very informed on Andrew Tate and how to best tackle that in the classroom which is what the team needed and hopefully can now do. Thanks for being such an engerised and engaging trainer!

Thanks for delivering amazing sessions to our students. They were all commenting on how brilliant they found your session and most selected your session as being the best workshop of the day. This really helps to raise the profile and importance of PSHE, so thank you!

  • My commitment to working with children began a decade ago when I lived with and supported 26 young females in Paraguay, South America who had been rescued from abusive situations. They lacked the knowledge and strength to identify abuse, often seeking help when it was too late.

In the UK, I have continued my work with survivors and victims of exploitation, becoming a Children & Families Safeguarding Social Worker in the West Midlands, and dedicated exploitation worker with Walsall Street Teams.

Through my work in various capacities and environments, I am witness to the effects of the key influences that are shaping children’s experiences and understanding of exploitation and consent.

My view is that children, regardless of exploiting each other, are victims. Even in cases of child-to-child exploitation, there will often be an adult perpetrator responsible for much of their behaviours.

One of my major concerns is: who is taking responsibility for educating our children? And where do our children look for sex education, online safety and for ideas on how to have relationships?

Through the SL&LP, it is my mission to enable and empower children to think critically about their personal boundaries, desires of how to be treated respectfully, what is a healthy relationship and what the law says about these vital subjects.

Above all, I want to teach children self respect, self love and self awareness.

  • A distinctive aspect of the SL&LP is its continuous evolution, closely informed by my active role within Street Teams in Walsall, where I receive referrals from local authorities and the police for children who are deemed 'at risk' and targeted for exploitation, whether sexual or criminal in nature.

In this capacity, I engage directly with children, their families, and the community, while also collaborating with key professionals, including social workers, the police, schools, and other agencies.

This collaborative approach fosters multi-agency efforts aimed at reducing the risk of exploitation for vulnerable children, prioritising their safeguarding and overall well-being.

This hands-on work forms the core of my passion and significantly informs the themes and approaches I bring into my prevention efforts within The Sex, Lies & Love Project.
